San Diego - Day 1

The boys and I had the opportunity to head down to San Diego with my parents to watch Shay's BYU volleyball team play. And while the game was great and a lot of fun (BYU won in 3 fairly quick, decisive games!)...we managed to find fun in a few other places as well!

The drive down wasn't too bad...about what I would expect traveling with three children under 5, we had our good moments and our less than stellar moments. All in all, it went pretty smoothly (no thanks to the completely incompetent Burger King in a bad area of town where the soda dispensers didn't work, the orders were all wrong, and an employee knocked Will to the ground - she didn't mean to, but it added to my annoyance with the place!).

We dropped my parents off at their hotel and headed to my friend Tanya's house. It was so great staying with her! The boys absolutely love her and keep asking when they can go back to her house. (Personally, I think a little family vacation to Sea World is in order...so hopefully it won't be too long before we get to go back!)

Friday morning, my parents called to see what we had planned for the day. They decided to join us on our adventure to Balboa Park. I had no idea how big this park was! We seriously could have spent a few days there...luckily, the boys have no idea what they missed out on. We enjoyed strolling around, looking at the fish, walking through the gardens, and taking a tram ride. The tram ride was definitely a hit with Gabe and Will (Sam stayed behind with Nana and Grandpa). We were the only ones on the tram and our driver, Kathy, was wonderful! She talked to the boys about everything they were seeing and even let them be Junior Conductors (hats and bell ringing included!).

Will enjoying one of the many fountains...he was completely overdressed most of the weekend, he insisted on wearing his jeans.

Will and Gabe talking to the fish...Will kept referring to them as his "fish friends".

Conductors Will and Gabe ringing the tram bell.

Sweet Sam happily hung out in his stroller.

Following Balboa Park, we headed over to the San Diego Temple. The boys enjoyed walking around the grounds and making new friends with an older couple serving a mission there and a young couple from Bangladesh. This is also where we met up with Aunt Shay and her team. Sam got to meet Aunt Shay for the first time...and Will "roared" at the team.

Looks like Sam is trying to escape. I couldn't get any of them to look at the camera...oh, well!

A beautiful night shot of the temple.

We then went to pick up Aunt Amy (who just happened to be attending a conference in San Diego...my parents got to see all their girls in one place, that doesn't happen very often!), we were supposed to have dinner together but her meetings were running late and the boys were getting tired and hungry. So, I decided that the boys and I would skip dinner (3 tired, cranky boys in a restaurant didn't sound like fun to me!) and head back to Tanya's for a bath, yummy pizza, and bed! We did get to spend a couple of minutes with Aunt Amy before leaving (this was Amy's first time meeting Sam too!).

Will and Gabe remind me a lot of my Ethan and Aidan. They are best buddies! It's awesome.
