Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween!  It's a pretty low stress holiday...just dress 'em up and walk around the neighborhood!  The boys always look forward to Halloween and the talk of what to be starts in August.

Gabe knew from the beginning that he wanted to be a Jedi, so that was pretty easy (especially since a friend loaned us the costume).  Will changed his mind about as often as he changed his underwear!  The list included, pirate, fireman, karate guy, lion, Incredible Hulk, Spiderman, police officer, cowboy...  Luckily, we got a package from the Ohio Pitons a few days before Halloween that had a great fireman costume.  After Halloween last year, I bought a monkey costume for Sam to wear this year.  Unfortunately, I miss calculated how big he'd be...so, our little friend Gavin got to be a Monkey and Sam was the bear I was saving for next year!

The boys had had their costumes on a few times, so I didn't think there would be any problems on Halloween.  I was wrong...

Sam did not want to wear his costume!  It was too big of a task for me, so I let Mark wrestle the bear.  Eventually, Mark won!

After all the wrestling, screaming, and sweating...Sam was happy (it just took showing him himself in the mirror)!

Our first stop was Nana and Grandpa's...

Will showed us his hiding spot, some how he manages to brace himself up inside their pool table.  He's tricked us a few times using this spot (but, now we know!).

We visited a couple more houses before heading back to our neighborhood to do the heavy duty trick or treating (and look Sam was still happy in his bear suit!).

This is what happens when your boys have been dressed up too long, walked too far, and have eaten too much candy...the good guys start fighting and the guy with the lightsaber wins!

And in the spirit of Halloween, here is Gabe's kindergarten class in their spider hats.

Jack-O-Lanterns

Now, that we had our pumpkins it's time to turn them into jack-o-lanterns!  We joined Nana and Grandpa at their house and got to work...

Gabe supervised Will scooping out the guts.

Sam figured his time was best spent exploring.

Will and Grandpa worked together on this one.  Will is adding the final touches.

Sam discovered the bucket of pumpkin guts.

Gabe took great pride in adding his final touches.

Isn't this the best jack-o-lantern ever?  Gabe and I worked together on the face and then he decided to write on the back.  I LOVE IT!

Once all the serious work of jack-o-lantern making was over, other activities ensued.  Like trying to fly (notice the feather in his hand).

Sam waited patiently for someone to pull him.

We love popsicles in October!

Gabe, showing off his big eyes and fudgesicle mustache.

The jack-o-lanterns made it safely back home to our front porch.  Unfortunately, because it's so warm here, they barely made it to Halloween.  But, we enjoyed them while we could!

Pumpkin Patch

Will's preschool had their annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch.  So, off we went in search of the perfect pumpkin, some corn maze fun, and a hay ride.  We weren't disappointed!

Will, at the top of the pumpkin hill, surrounded by some of his classmates.
Sam wasn't about to get left out of the fun!

Will and his best friend, Nikko.

Sam thought this one was the perfect pumpkin!

This was the winner!

Uh, oh!  Will turned into a pumpkin!

Karate Time

While we were in Wisconsin, Aunt Christine gave Gabe a karate suit.  For Will's birthday, she sent him one.  The boys love them!  As you can imagine, there is a lot of karate happening around our house!

Will and Gabe showing off their best karate moves.

It isn't easy getting all three boys in one picture, so I was excited to get them to all cooperate for this one.  If only Sam had looked at the camera.  Oh well, we'll keep working on it!

Shared Birthdays

While Will and I don't actually share a birthday, we do usually share the family celebration.  He hasn't complained yet and when he does, we'll make and effort to separate the days.  For now, I'll enjoy the fact that he likes to share his birthday with me.

When Will opened this gift from my parents, he started yelling "Oh Yes!!!  I wanted this!"  We asked him what it was and he said, "I don't know!"  He loved it!  It's a truck and trailer set with a cowboy like Grandpa and horses like Doc and Little Joe.

Since his birthday, Sam has discovered the joy of presents.  He was more than willing to help Will out!

The birthday kids!

Disneyland!!

Yesterday we took the boys to Disneyland to celebrate Will and I's birthdays. We left Sam with my mom and drove down to LA after lunch on Thursday. We endured the LA traffic (seriously, why do people live there?!) and made it to Anaheim in time for dinner and the Disney fireworks show.

Mark's plan was that the boys would sleep in and we'd get to the park by 10am. HA!!! The boys were up by 5:30am! Needless to say, we were at the park by 8am! But, I'm glad we were. We had a great day and I'm sure walked several miles. I insisted on going to the Haunted Mansion, in October the mansion is decked out for Halloween (as is the entire park). Gabe wasn't totally keen on the idea, but we did it and afterward he admitted that it wasn't as scary as he thought it would be.

We let the boys take turns picking rides, offering suggestions along the way. If it had been purely up to them, I think we would have alternated between Star Tours and Autotopia all day. Thankfully, we were able to kind of steer them in certain directions.

Midday, we stopped to watch the parade. Will was invited to join the cast members to dance in the street. He loved it, he toned it down from his usual dance moves (he usually add quite a bit of "break dance" moves). Here is the clip...

Will and I both wore birthday buttons. It was fun to be continually greeted with "Happy Birthday Will! (or Jodie) by cast members and park visitors. On our way to It's A Small World, one of the vendors stepped away from her cart to sing (and dance) "Happy Birthday" to us. While we were on Tom Sawyer's Island, two cast members rowing by yelled out "Happy Birthday Will!" I think he enjoyed the attention and it made our visit to Disneyland seem more like a birthday celebration rather than just a normal day at the park.

At about 9pm, we found a place to watch the fireworks from. Within a few minutes, Will was sound asleep. He completely missed the fireworks show (good thing he saw them from the hotel the night before!)...he doesn't even remember me pulling him out of the stroller at McDonald's for a final bathroom stop before the drive home.

The day was excellent. The boys were great and managed to put in over 13 hours at the park. Unfortunately, Mark and I still had to drive home! Fortunately, traffic wasn't bad and the boys slept all the way!

This morning, Will told me that when he woke up this morning and couldn't find his snake (a toy that he bought at Disneyland with his birthday money) he thought that our trip had been a dream.

Will's 4th Birthday

Happy 4th Birthday Will!!!

Will is pretty lucky, his birthday this year is going to last for 4 days! It started with the celebration at preschool yesterday, a friend over today, Disneyland tomorrow, and a family party on Saturday. I'm tired just thinking about it!

It's hard to believe that 4 years can pass so quickly!
Will is an adventurous, smart, athletic boy with tons of personality. He is so much fun to be around! He says some of the funniest things and is quite the schmoozer, he is full of compliments...I haven't quite figured out if he is sincere or if he is trying to work the system, but I sure like it!

As for his future, this is what Will has to say...

His wife's only job is going to be taking care of the birds. They are going to have 10 kids, and they are going to be this big (holding his hands out to show how big) so they can take care of themselves. He is going to be a Fireman.

Sounds like he has some big plans!

Pirate Cookies

At preschool, the kids get to bring in a treat for their birthday. I figured cupcakes. But, when I asked Will what he wanted to take he said "Pirate cookies!!" What?! I googled Pirate cookies and came up with a great website that had a version of the cookie I thought I might be able to duplicate. My cookies didn't quite look like those on the website (thought they looked more like crazy beret wearing Frenchmen with a unibrow), but they were yummy!

Will showing off his Pirate cookie while saying, "Argh!"

The Pirates are ready to go to preschool!

Will had a GREAT day and was eager to show off his Birthday Crown and badge.
