We've really struggled over the last couple of years to get Gabe just enjoy being in the water. There has been a lot of weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. His biggest obstacle was the fear of going under water (and a little confindence).
Over spring break, he took swimming lessons. He was constantly trying to negotiate with his teacher, so he could do things his way. I made a deal with him that if he went under water at least one time during each lesson, I would take him to see Monsters vs. Aliens. Well, unbelievably, he managed to do it!
Unfortunately, there is too much time between spring break and summer. So, once it was warm enough to start swimming this summer, we were back at square one. Slowly, we went from floaties to a pool noodle. The real turning point came when Gabe realized how great googles are. Within just a few days he was spending more time under water than over water! And another day or so later, he abandoned the pool noodle and was off!
Good job, Gabe!
Now, we need to get Will swimming!
